About Stack Tower

Stack Tower asks for exactly one decision, over and over: when do you drop the block. A block slides back and forth across the top of your tower, and the only thing you control is the moment you release it. Line it up well with the block beneath it and your tower stays wide and stable; drop it off-center and the overhanging part is trimmed away, leaving you a narrower target for the next block, and the one after that, for as long as you can keep going.

A physical toy idea, translated to a screen

The core challenge here — stacking objects as high as possible while a margin for error shrinks with every successful placement — echoes physical stacking and balance games that have existed in various forms for a very long time, from wooden block towers to carnival ring-toss and coin-drop games built around the same basic tension between precision and mounting risk. What the digital version adds is the moving block itself: rather than a static target you place at your own pace, the block never stops sliding, which converts a pure precision task into a timing task as well, since you have to judge both where the block is and where it needs to be at the same instant.

How to play this version

Press start and a block begins sliding automatically back and forth across the width of the tower base below it. Click, tap, or press space to drop the block at the moment you choose — wherever it overlaps with the block directly beneath it becomes the new top of your tower, while any part that hangs outside that overlap is cut away and discarded. Each successful drop adds one to your height count, and the game speeds up the sliding block gradually as your tower grows, making each subsequent placement slightly harder to time than the last. A drop with essentially no overlap ends the run, with your final height compared against your saved best.

Why the game gets progressively less forgiving

The core mechanic creates a self-reinforcing difficulty curve independent of the speed increase alone: every imperfect drop narrows the target for your next drop, which means a string of slightly-off placements compounds into an increasingly thin tower that demands near-perfect timing just to survive, let alone grow further. Because the block's back-and-forth motion is smooth and continuous rather than erratic, a metronomic approach based on rhythm generally outperforms one based on visual judgment alone, especially once speed increases to the point where visual reaction time alone isn't fast enough to catch the ideal moment.

Deciding when to play it safe

Because any overlap at all keeps a run alive, there's a real strategic choice buried in the timing question: dropping slightly conservatively, accepting a marginally worse overlap in exchange for near-certainty of hitting some overlap at all, versus pushing for a precise center-drop that risks missing the tower base entirely. Once your tower has narrowed to a thin sliver after several imperfect drops, that conservative approach usually keeps a run alive longer than continuing to gamble for a perfect strike, even though a perfect strike would keep the tower wider going forward.
